I think what the agent said is true only in Germany today. Not a problem in the USA as war mementos.

I am half-German and don't have a problem with Nazi stuff, it is historic relics to me, just interesting.

I had a few items but the "spousal unit" made me sell them to preserve "peace on the home front". I still regret it

Wifes grandad was 82nd. He sent alot home, but most was given away over the years. Ive not seen an iron cross like that.
There are some serious collectors out there. This stuff appears to have historical significance to me. There are definitly people who cant even look at such. Its history, and probably some of our most important history lessons.

Search for a member of one of the major appraiser organizations: The Appraisers Association of America (AAA), American Society of Appraisers (ASA), or the International Society of Appraisers (ISA).
 
The 38H sauer I do plan to keep I know for sure
