Pretty sure this was one of the the boyscout or survival tests. Can't remember where I learned this or the details but you had to get the fire going and boil water within 8 or 10min. Time limit sucked, thats all I remember LOL
Oh yeah i can see this going down at hunting camp.
I did this yesterday. Gotta make sure you gap the slits wide enough for airflow, had a slow start and had to re work it a little. Once it got cranking, made a helluva stove and campfire. Stump is still burning 14 hours later in my fire pit. Cooked an excellent meal in m dutch oven! Will link pics later.
It is called a swedish candle. Bushcrafters have been doing this for a long time. Great info and nice pics.
