I recently bought a new rifle from a local gun shop. This is my first gun purchase so I'm not that familiar with all the laws. I had have a background check and now that I'm good to go I can pick up the rifle. My question is can I give a trusted friend the money to go pick up the rifle for me? The reason for this is because I do not get off work by the time the gun store closes tomorrow? Would it help if I called the gun store and they pulled up my paperwork and I told them my SSN so they could verify it was me and I was giving permission?

Do you mean that your background check got delayed and they called and said You were now approved? If that's the case you definitely have to go in person in order to sign the 4473.

Yeah, i see you and you seem a little ill. May have to go home early that day from work.

Yes, you have to buy it in person.

I don't understand the "you've been through the background check" party of your post. They don't do the b/g check until you buy the gun. Unless you have a GWL and then no b/g check is necessary.

What happened is I told them I wanted the gun, they said ok and I filled out the paper work. After I got done with that they told me that they would give me a call when my back ground check came back in and that if I didn't hear anything from them to come pick it up after three business days (today). My boss was saying we might quit at 4:30 tomorrow because he has some stuff he has to do. I can always go on Saturday but fingers crossed it's tomorrow!

You can not have anyone pick up the rifle for you, that would be considered a straw purchase and you'd both commit a felony. And they might not release the rifle to you, it depends on the store policy of delayed background checks. Just be patient and wait until Saturday. It won't go anywhere, just ask them not to sell it. Hope you enjoy your first rifle man.

The rifle is for me. I filled out the paperwork and I'm paying for it but I do get what you are saying. It's not my first rifle. I grew up with guns. This is just the first rifle I've bought and my first AR. But I defiantly will enjoy! Thanks!
