Yes. The seat is on a "hinge". It raises up and you climb up onto the foot platform. Simply reach behind you and pull the seat down, open the chair and sit back and enjoy your hunt. We have a video on the home page of our website that shows that along with the safety features that goes along with the seating aspect of the stand. We list the maximum weight at 300 lbs just like every other stand. While we are not TMA members we tested the stand to TMA standards and it passed on both the 600 lb test on the foot platform and the 400 lb test on the side foot rest. Both tests were for two minutes and on a concrete floor. The stand didn't budge.Welcome brother! OK, I'm diggin' the stand but wondering how in the hell a fat fella can get in it.
