Hello there and quick question

Here is the quick answer:

The BATFE is going after "unlicensed dealers." Are you a dealer? If not, what do you want to play paperwork games for? Or, put another way: Suppose you sell a used car. WHO gets the "Bill of Sale?" Buyer, right? Don't kid yourself and inadvertently become an unlicensed dealer. Those crackpot Bills of Sale are not that, but rather precursors to registration.

Hi,

New to the site and will be using it later to post an ad for shotgun. Previously I've only bought or sold handguns and those were thru a broker or a pawn shop. Is it standard for me to write up a bill of sale for the buyer to sign since it’s a private transaction? And apologies if I’m posting in the wrong forum.
"Is it standard"? I'd say less than half request one. You can ask for the family secret meatloaf recipe from the buyer's grandmother if you'd like, but nothing is required. Asking for a bill of sale will scare some buyers off, some won't care, and some will demand one.
Your stuff, your requirements.
