Help....Getting started buying individual stocks

I started out in crypto currency so I am probably a lot less risk averse than average. I also find crypto to be a bit easier than stocks, but that's just me.

I have a Webull account. I went with them after Robinhood showed their colors during the original GameStop fiasco. I don't have any delusions that Webull won't do the same in a similar instance, but there's that.

I would find a company or sector that you have interest in and research/understand it front to back. Know the company you are investing in and know what their competitor's are up to. The most important thing is knowing yourself and how you will react to market changes. You can also start by looking at charts for anything that catches your interest. I will give two examples.

I personally had great success with Coinbase. I had been looking at them/researching for a week or two, liked how the chart looked, and had conviction that prices would improve when the market improved; caught the bottom on that one and me and Uncle Sugar made some money on it. Rivian is another one that caught my interest after seeing a chart but I didn't know enough about anything they had going on so I let it be. TradingView is a nice resource for looking at charts.

As others have said, Don't chase! You gotta treat that stuff like fireworks; sit back and admire the beauty when watching something run. The inverse is not always the same though. Have the fundamentals changed since buying in or are you just seeing a correction in the market?

Timeframes and effort matter. Can I make money on this in a week? Will it take 6 months? Will it take a year or longer? Do I have the time and energy to put in to doing my due diligence? At the end of the day, I think this is the most important question. There are no wrong answers here. Again, know yourself and do what is best for you.

I've done enough rambling. I like fast306stang fast306stang information/advice. YMMV.

your not smart enough to "dabble" in the stock market!!!

Nobody is smart enough to "dabble" in the stock market...except Nuke & Juke....and he'll be more than happy tell you that
my advise is the picture....Fidelity low priced stock fund it was, before a few days ago up almost 14% since December....down a bit after these last few days....pays a dividend as well....has a multi year record of better than 10%....typically around 14%

Pick single stocks. All eggs in one basket I say. Works great for me. It doesn't take a genius to pick the winners. The secret sauce is picking the leadership, not the companies.

Here are my words of advice:
  • All dividend stocks are nothing but ponzi schemes.
  • Any financial advisor telling u to diversify is just trying to get their hands on managing ur money
  • A great financial advisor is one that has long since stopped working. And any working advisor is not to be trusted
  • Lastly, no need to ask a boomer what they think will happen in 10 years or what's good investment for the next 10 years. They do better if they caught a sale on coffins at Walmart, no cap!

Any other advice, PM me directly. I'm tired of seeing whinners b itching bout something irrelevant.

Buy nvidia, tesla, rivian, Microsoft, Amazon, AMD, and RTX at minimum. I use robinhood to buy my own. I don't have a whole lot of shares of each but it's a start. The rivian I got for around $10 a share so if it completely tanks I'm not out a whole lot but it is a good long term small investment.
Love it

I have a broad investment portfolio but would like to dabble with buying individual stock.

Looking for recommendations on brokerage firms, do's and don'ts, and lessons learned.

I do not intend to start off with more than a couple hundred dollars until I get comfortable with the process.

Thanks for any insight.

I tried this, my advice is don't.

Stick with mutual funds where the brains and professionals at Vanguard or Fidelity have the resources to do the job.

I had some decent stocks, Microsoft, Berkshire Hathaway, Intel, Steak n Shake and losers like Montana Power....look that one up. I was in for 4k, cashed out at 40 bucks, lost 99% of value.
