I have been searching for a couple days now and cannot seem to find anything about this upper receiver i got from a friend for $300 complete.

I started an AR pistol build Last week and a friend of mine said he had an 11.5" piston driven upper that he was going to use for an SBR but never moved forward. He did not remember the brand. I got it from him yesterday and the only brand marking I've found is the Yankee Hill on the Gas block. What appears to be a serial number on the BCG, nothing on the charging handle. After searching I could not find that they had an 11.5" upper much less one with a piston system.

Obviously this could just be a Frankenstein upper but I was hoping someone might be able shed some light if I got a good deal at $300 or maybe not so much. I am new to AR's so any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance and let me know if you would like to see more pictures.

It's almost impossible to tell who distributed or finish milled the upper receiver....but as for who cast it, the casting Mark identifies the forging company. Yours is a square casting Mark. Here is the list.
Forging marks/makers:

A (splintered) = Anchor Harvey Aluminum

AF = Alcoa Forge

C AF = Colt Alco Forge

C MB = Colt / Mueller Brass

Cardinal (stylized) = Cardinal Forge

CH = Colt Harvey Aluminum

CK = Colt / Kaiser Aluminum

Circle/Crooshairs w/"AR" = ArmaLite

CM = Colt / Martin Marietta

D (stylized) = Diemaco

DK = Diemaco / Kaiser Aluminum

E = Emco

EK = EMCO/Kaiser

E MB = EMCO/Mueller Brass

F keyhole = FNMI / Cerro Forge

FA = FNMI / Anchor Harvey

FK = FNMI / Kaiser Aluminum

FM = FN/Martin Marietta

FMB = FNMI / Mueller Brass

Keyhole = Cerro Forge

L = Lewis Machine & Tool

LK = LAR / Kaiser Aluminum

LM = LAR / Martin Marietta

M (under diamond) = Mueller Industries

PA = Capco / Anchor Harvey

PM = Capco / Martin Marietta

Square = BAFE

Pretty much what the poster aboveme said.

Also 300 for a complete AR upper is a pretty good deal. No matter the brand. And usually factory or drop in piston kits add value. So all in all I'd say you got a good deal.

I was looking at that thinking it was a piston setup, I'm not familiar with them though because all my stuff is DI. Since confirmed that does add even more value OP.

Yeah I feel like I remember seeing piston kits for sale here for close to 300 bucks by themselves. So he may have hit a jackpot.

OP let us know any barrel and BCG markings.

All I know about is Adam arms when it comes to pistons. Was thinking about the $300ish area too. So either way he did good seems like. Lol
