Help with a Mercury motor

I have a 2006 Mercury 60 hp 4 stroke Bigfoot EFI on bass tracker pro crappie. I just had the carpet replaced and a new fuel pump put in Got to the lake yes try and launched the boat. Several immediate problems that I took care of but have no clue on one weird one When engaging forward or reverse, the motor is in opposite gear. Forward is reverse reverse is forward. Almost ran it up on the rocks at the launch. I did some looking at throttle control box but don’t see where it could happen there...... anyone have an idea as to what is going on?

Sounds like they took off the throttle/shift cables when changing the fuel pump and hooked them back up opposite of how they should be

That engine should have a fast disconnect at shift rod. Have a helper shift at helm while you watch movement at linkage. GLWShifter and pics should you not remedy problem.
