It's not "no reason" it's to keep you out of jail if someone with a badge sees you doing this. That's the reason.
If you don't want to do that, might as well say F it and get a switch on a glock and go the whole felon route, at least have something cooler than a slightly shorter single shot shotgun.

If you wanna get weird go black powder. Not even a gun so when you get your felony you can still carry it.
