Hey guys, never been but I inherited a great uncles bring back Sauer 38h in .32acp. From what I can find these pistols were never issued outside of Germany and production ceased when the Allies took the factory. There were 3 generations of the pistol and as the war progressed and things like roll marks and the like were let slide. This is definitely a 3rd generation gun. It does have matching serial numbers and the Nazi proofmark. Not that I would ever consider selling it as I loved my g-uncle and my father and I were both named after him but can someone please give me an honest value. It's in great shape for its age and still functions as designed with good rifling. Here are a few photos.

It appears to be late war production due to the grade of finish and the deletion of the slide mounted safety. I can't really tell from the pictures but it looks like eagle / "N" stamps which could be indicative of Police service, which would make this more scarce than a standard army issue which would have the eagle / "waa" stamp. If it's all numbers matching and has the original magazine, that would put the value at around $1200. Cool piece there.

The Eagle N is a german proof. Military will have an E37 on the trigger guard, police will be E/F. I can't see that it has either. Maybe it was removed? That area looks discolored in the photo. Here is one that is two guns away for reference. https://p38guns.com/500297.html

If the acceptance proof was not removed, it is worth $700 to $750, not $1,200.

The grips on these tend to be fragile so be careful.

I appreciate the correction and the clear reference. My mistake.

It is 100% a Nitro proof mark. Essentially an acceptance, as GA_Collector mentioned. It is not a police issued pistol nor does it have the army acceptance stamps. It was for commercial use.

Still a nice pistol and if all pieces are original, you're looking at about a 700-900 pistol depending on the buyer.

38H's prices are slowly rising compared to even 3 years ago when you could pick them up for 350-550...

Getting one now for a collection is wise.
