Here we go: 9mm vs. .45 ACP

My XDM9 holds 19 rounds and most of my 45's hold 7 or 8 so it really is a no-brainer. It would suck to need more rounds. Having to feel like you need to carry a .45 is like having to have the biggest tires in the offroad community. Whats funny is watching the 33" tire guys wheel right along the 37" tire guys over most obstacles. Bigger is not always better. I would carry a .45 on a hog hunt, but have yet to meet a man willing to take a free hit from a 9mm. Talk is talk.

CCW, since you mention the XDM9, how well does it shoot. I keep a 9 and 45 in my truck, and carry each for different reasons. I have been looking at the XDM pretty hard, mainly for the capacity. Maybe I am starting another stupid argument, but I thought the Glock sucked. I couldn't hit the side of a barn. It was just too light. I have been a Walther and S&W fan.

The XDM's shoot great. They are very accurate. I really love my XDM.40 , but the 9 is also a great shooter. I also have a Glock 23 that I carry from time to time, especially if I go places in the evening because it has Tritiums and I love it just as much as the XDM's.

,45 is the way to go. First, I invite you all to look up the entrance wound scenario. The body may be able to stop the bleeding from a 9mm entrance wound, but the .45 hole will keep on bleeding. I want maximize damage going in and going out. I also find the capacity argument to be a bit silly. If someone has ever been involved in a self defense scenario where you get off 12 or more shots, let me know. 2 to 3 shots at most, because shooting at them while they are running away can leave you with a lot of explaining to do to law enforcement. 2 to 3 shots from a .45 will more than resolve your probem, really just one will do the job. Also, with just a limited number of shots available .45 provides you with the most damage going in and out!

a 9 may or may not expand, a .45 will never shrink :) .45 all the way. If 7+1 isn't enough, thats what spare mags are for.

A handgun is just an instrument used to fight your way to a rifle.

I've been saying that for years. In the end i think it's about accurate shot placement instead of caliber size. I can place double taps much tighter together with my XDM9 than i can with my XD45 Tactical. My vote is for the 9mm. The larger round doesn't count for squat if you can't hit what you're aiming at. With that being said, I never leave home without my Glock 20.
