Yep, they burned kerosene; and were used at night to warn of dangerous construction sites before battery powered warning lights became a thing. We also called them "flambos"; but I believe the correct spelling is flambeau.Don't know the correct name for them but we used to call them "Flambo" they were filled with kerosene and lit at sundown and were used to mark construction on roadways at night.
