Good luck, these kids today SUCK!
My 22 year old stepdaughter has had probably 30 jobs in 2 years. She kept none more than a month.
I have a 10 man crew under me, almost all of them are 18-21, and they are awesome. I call them my “killaz”. They produce at a high level and take pride in doing a good job. They are all electrician apprentices, and I am their lead journeyman. I’ve worked with some really great young folks, and some really sucky ones too…But mostly I have found that if you give them a little encouragement, fairness and the occasional Chik-Fil-A biscuit as a show of appreciation, they gain in confidence, develop character and great work ethic. I also show them some of my check stubs and that helps. I don’t show them to brag. I show them so they know what they have to look forward to in 4-5 years…After all, if they play their cards right they will be JW’s for the vast majority of their careers. Apprenticeship is but a short time. So yeah, I know some young people may suck, but certainly not all of them. There are plenty of smart, capable and willing young workers out there. Just pointing out the flip side to the coin. They are not all bad.

Sounds good. Good on you for being a good leader

I heard one time that about 1 out of every 10 people are worth hiring and about 1 out of 50 are worth keeping. In my experience in running crews (about 27 years), this isn't far from the truth. Some of my best workers are under 25, but that isn't typical. They have no problem working under direct supervision but when you cut them loose, that's another story. As a project manager/foreman, you have to be constantly building the confidence, skill, and work ethic of you techs...but there has to be something there to work with.

So it’s like the next logical step after you get tired of the 9 volts on the tongue? I’m in!
Old habits are hard to change. Troubleshooting a wireless transmitter/receiver and even though I had a multi-meter, I still tested the 9 v battery from the transmitter using this time honored method. :p
