HOA Discrimination?

Are the HOA covenants permanent or do the have an expiration date? The covenants in our sub-dev were expired and we were asked to sign them at the closing when we bought this house.

I refused

IF they expire, you might have an out.

You could expose the gray areas of the HOA guidelines, and piss the lady off to no end. This would be fun for a while, but you will be dealing with this or other stupid **** as long as you live there. You are currently renting from my understanding. IMHO ........My suggestion would be to move. I know it is tough decision because you feel like she is winning, but you will be happier in the end.

Look her in the eyes and ask her if the nonsense she is starting is worth the price of her life....tell her the voices in your head are getting louder

Here are my thoughts on HOA's.

They are a necessary evil unfortunately to keep values up in your subdivisions. Whether you like it or not, if a person builds a tree house in their front yard, that is going to cause potential buyers to not buy there. A pink mailbox might not seem so bad to you but to most it will.....that is a fact. If a vehicle is leaking oil and is on blocks in the neighborhood the value on your home will decrease. Realtors won't show houses in neighborhoods that look like the hood. Any of this stuff will decrease the value on your home. That is why HOA's came into existence. I personally like the fact there is a force in place to protect the value of the biggest investment that I will probably ever make.

You should have read the covenants and restrictions....if you didn't get a chance to read them then the realtor didn't do their job.

If you don't like politics don't move into a subdivision that has an HOA. Every single HOA has a bunch of politics going on....not all bad but politics just the same.

If you think the lady has it in for you, then you can run for her position next time y'all vote for officers. I can absolutely promise you that you will hate the job. They are non paying, thankless positions but somebody has to do it.

I'm not sure if public or private streets matter as one ODT'er mentioned. I have never heard of that.

The HOA has the absolute right to slap a lien on your home. You might not feel that pain now but I assure you that you will when you sell your home or refinance it.

Last thought, if you think you're being wronged go before the HOA board and plead your case but I think you will lose from what I've read here. If you can't any relief from the HOA then moving is probably your only option.

Just my two cents and it's probably worth less than that!! :-)
