HOA Discrimination?

GLWS. It's not about 24 CONTIGUOUS hours, it's about having a commercial vehicle in a residential setting continously. The intent is clear. People aren't really this obtuse... :tsk:
Did I mention none of the teachers liked me . I think I tested them more than they did me . Go figure

I don't understand people.
I wish we had an enforced HOA (ours is voluntary, which means it does nothing, at all). The exact same homes in adjoining neighborhoods to my hood are 15-20% more in selling price simply because of the APPEARANCE of the neighborhood.
If you don't like rules that keep uniformity and should be designed to promote property values (THE biggest investment for most people) there are more neighborhoods withOUT covenants than with. Yet most people want to move into neighborhods WITH covenants and then female dog about them and try and skirt them.
Everyone likes to complain about liberals/Californians/Yankees/whatever... that move here and try and change it to the way it was where they lived and don't see the irony of moving into a covenant enforced neighborhood and trying to change, or worse, skirt, the rules.
OP - you are RENTING. You may or may not have any legal standing at all against the HOA. If you have a problem with their rule, move. I assume your work vehicle is a long term issue for you. It's not allowed. I assume there is not way to allow for parking behind the house. Move.
No one has addressed your question about selective enforcement regarding the ladder rack. There is no rule about the ladder rack based on what you posted so yes, the president doesn't want to look at your truck directly across from their house and is making up a rule. If it was ONLY the ladder rack, I'd ignore their request until they could provide documentation about your non compliance. But it's not, since you have the lettering.
You can be as professional and calm in trying to get it resolved or as difficult as you want to be with you new neighbors in a neighborhood you intend you to buy into. The 'wisdom' of both tactics is up to you.
I'm the first one to admit I want to live on acreage in a rural setting so the only rules about appearance of my place are set by me but I'd be the last one to move into a place with EXISTING rules and then belly ache about it or worse inflict my wants via non compliance onto others that signed up for and are playing by the rules.

I just can't get the picture out of my head of your Avatar and we are talking neighborhood covenants ...;-)

It's not about sitting idly by. It's about abiding by pre-existing rules.
Sounds like you've reached a workable plan with the free parking one mile away. (I take it you can't park the work truck in your backyard).
If you don't want to live in a neighborhood with those type rules you still have a different looming issue....

The sitting idly by is referring to the selective enforcement. Again that's what I have a problem with and no matter how you view HOA's it's not right.

Theres two sides of it. If I say hey that's not right, then likely the homeowner around the corner loses his parking spot, but let's remember that's against the rules, BUT if they never said anything to me Id still be parking there and not think a Thing about that rule. I'm too nice a guy to mess it up for him because I know that's what they'll do. They won't change the rule. They will probably tell him he has to move his truck and specifically who created the why.

My hopes are in the next 2 years or so I'll trade that truck in for a larger salary and more responsibility and frequent home officing.
Well we all have to pick our battles. Just not sure you can win that one even if you 'win'.

I am not going to read through all these but this is the reason I moved out of a "nice" HOA neighborhood to a not as nice neighborhood with no HOA. The covenants are the covenants. They do selectively enforce the rules (not much you can do) but they can also put a lien on your house and make life rough on you. My advise, don't buy the house, fit the truck in your garage, or find an offsite location for the truck. They have the same thing for boats and RV's. Read all the covenants.

I used to get written up for too long grass and faded paint on the mailbox, the HOA green had to be "green enough"....... Faded paint on the house once too.
