Holding/Opening doors for women....

If you hold the door for someone just to hear the thank you after the fact you should just quit doing it all together. You do it out of courtesy and no one owes thanks to you for doing the right thing. Just my 0.02

Where I work I see more people than I could possibly count, but for the most part most of them are pretty nice. I'm a southern boy through and through, raised to say mam & sir and hold the door for anyone, not just for women. Just about everyone I pass by I say "Hey, how ya'll doin'?" and I'd say 95% of them answer me back and ask how I am. Of course there are some people who just look at me with a scowl on their face like I don't have the right to speak to them but that's going to happen no matter where you are. I will say that when I was in San Antonio, Texas in 2006 I was amazed at how friendly the people there were. Seemed like everybody was glad to see you and had a smile on their face, even getting on the highway folks would slow down and wave to you and let you merge into traffic without a problem. Anyway, just keep being nice to other folks, even if they don't say thanks, they probably still appreciate it. Alot of people have problems at home or work and they just aren't happy to begin with, a kind word and a smile from one of us may be the ONLY smile or kind word they see & hear all day and may make a HUGE difference in their life.:)

well i can tell you it ain,t the same in south fla, nobody ever says hi and the only waves you get is someone giving you the finger. I could not believe how nice folks were here in north GA. i drive down a road and people wave all the time, it blew me away my first year living here, now i wave to every body....see.........

They wanted equality they can open the damn door like I just did, but I will hold it open for the Marine bringing the toys for tots box in. And the elderly and small children.

I don't owe anyone a bit of courtesy either.

I don't do it to hear thanks. I do it because I think of people other than just myself. It irks me when people don't acknowledge that. But do unto others I guess....

In college, I was in a literature class in which we read classic literature and would sit around in a circle discussing the week's reading. After one particularly heated debate between a young female classmate and myself on the topic of gender roles, I opened the door for her as we were both exiting the classroom. She looked at me with the nastiest look and spat out, "I can open it myself!" All I could do was laugh.

That's the part where you trip her.
