A friend told me today that he has a nice 1903 he may sell, 1919 manufacture. I need an 03 but need the experts on the subject as I know nothing!

Not an expert but make sure it is a high number, with a 1919 date you are probably safe:

Just picked up a WW2 Springfield Garand at a local gun store, was originally bought as a CMP correct grade WWII with letter from CMP verifying it.
