Yeah, that's the way I saw it. The damage had already been done. Whatever paint that was on it before was so thick you couldn't put the bayonet on.Un-bubba'ing a rifle is justification enough for refinishing. Nice looking rifle there.
A customer brought me that gun. He had just bought it. Someone did a good job on the wood but they had stripped the original finish on the metal and coated with some kind of spray paint. It's was flaking pretty bad. I refinished it with Cerakote midnight, it's black with a grey bluish tent to it. Looks pretty good on guns with wood.
Interesting factoid, an Enfield has over fifty metal parts, all of which are completely saturated in oil and take several actetone baths and bakes in the oven to drive it all out. Might be the last milsurplus I Cerakote
