How many kWh do you use in the summer?

We have carroll emc. 8200sq ft and my bill was around 1k per month. Ac units were undersized for the house to begin with. We upgraded and added a unit. That only helped a little bit. Slowly moved my thermostat to 72 and now it runs about 500-600 during summer

I can’t imagine a house that big. I would probably just close off a floor to make it easier to process for my simple brain.

72?? What did you have it set on before??

I've learned a larger house only begot more stuff........In my case, we had out grown our old home a long time ago. But now with a larger home, you want at set up in several different locations just so you don't spend a lot of time and effort to retrieve everything needed to do what your doing. More stuff....

1945 sq ft house, weather 90+ high every day. Heat indices over 110 common. Black roof, no shade.
A/C was running continually May and June. $450+ each month.
Had an a/c tech come out twice, said system was fine. Thought about replacing system.
Called new company to check again, said low on refrigerant. Recharged system, same weather daily, July bill dropped by over $100. System also cycles normally now.

Edit to add : thermostat stays set at 74 degrees.

About 2000 sf . Semi shaded. Keep house close to 78-80 down and 85/90 upstairs. Window unit in basement runs a good bit to help keep fermenting beers happy

Because I'm a geek and the fact that we moved last November to Canton (Cobb EMC from GA Pwr) the house is bigger and has lower electricity bills even though more folks in the house. I think it's because the a/c units are more efficient but it's also because I get a LOT cheaper electricity.

Here's a quick back-o'-the-napkin calculation for cost per kWh by provider based on what folks have posted in this thread.

Provider $ per kWh

GA Power $0.224
0.219
0.212
0.201

Romy EMC $0.196

Grainchaser Pwr $0.196

Hart EMC $0.146

Flint EMC $0.131

Cobb EMC $0.104
0.086

Jackson EMC $0.131
0.066

So yes, GA Power is putting it to you. I can't imagine Jackson EMC at 7cents per kWh but ok, you're the winner!

So from personal experience it looks like I cut my electricity expense by half from the move to a new provider.

2400 sq ft upstairs and 2500 downstairs in Sandy Springs, $400 for last months bill, wife keeps the house 68 degrees in the summer and 64 in winter. Basement also powered off the downstairs unit, both units are 10 years old.

Ga has the lowest electricity rates in the nation. Thank God for those nuke plants.....
Not the lowest but definitely low-end compared to other states...
Someone would have to drop a pretty long line. We are pretty spread out between houses. I do have a small workshop but the only thing plugged in is a box fan I have running so the air isn’t stale. If I get to a point where I can cut the power to everything, I’m going to for a few hours and see if the meter is still going up. It’s digital so I have to wait a bit for it to go up.

Honestly, I just despise Georgia Power and their greed. I see some above that are using the same or more on different companies and are paying half or less for the same usage. I don’t understand why WE are paying for them to build new facilities and have no benefit for doing so. Can you imagine if gas stations imposed an increase to build more gas stations on your dime? Horse****!
That's the regulated utility model... GA is growing like a weed, both residential and commercial, and building new plants is crazy expensive.

I've seen estimates of 1600% growth over the next decade. GA Power just brought two nuke plants online that are already over-subscribed.
