Hunting Suppressed

Yes, I hunt with a suppressor.

No, I don’t use subs. Probably not a good idea when hunting elk, Montana whitetail/mule deer, and pronghorn. My shortest shot on a game animal out there to date is about 380 yards.

With a .280 Ackley Improved launching 160grn AccuBonds at 2889fps, I can comfortably fire suppressed without hearing protection. Same with my 16” .308 and 165grn AccuBonds at 2679fps.

A good can enhances accuracy, reduces recoil, and boosts velocity. There are many benefits to shooting suppressed, even with supers.
This one says all you need to know - subs are for fun at the range, night hunting hogs, and maybe home defense in a few situations.

I tried the 300blk with subs but it wasn’t for me. The only subsonic stuff I shoot is 22lr. Suppreors are very effective even with supers. My 22creed and 17hmr sound almost the same suppressed.

We didn’t use hearing protection growing up unless we were target shooting. Add all the noise from all the military training and 3 combat deployments….. hearing loss/tinnitus suck. Don’t want to lose more if I can help it and I don’t want my kids to have the same issues.

I handload for everything I shoot except rimfire. Currently using hammer bullets for deer in my 22 Creedmoor and it works extremely well. The 57hht and 60nbt @4000fps shoot to the exact same POA/POI. I ended up loading some 57hht for 223 for deer as well. Based on the 22creeds performance, slowing down a bit should save some meat.
