Hunting with the iron sights

I really like the idea of hunting hogs and deer size game just using the iron sights, no scope. I also want to do that with a semi auto rifle preferably in .308 or 7.62x39, maybe .223. Distance would be 100 yards or less. So now the hard part- what would you suggest for a weapon? AR-15, AK-47, VEPR, Mini14, Mini30, Saiga...something that takes 5-10-30 round mags??? Budget is always limited- $800 max.

As long as it's a .308/7.62 NATO instrument, it really doesn't matter.

I got a deer a few years back with a lever .30-.30 with irons. But it was only a 30 yard shot.

It was not on your list, but I always liked hunting with a 30-30 lever gun with iron sights at that range. I have taken deer out to 60 yards with one.

I do like 30-30 lever but I want a semi auto

What ever you choose, just pick one that uses a peep sight. Makes shots much easier. A good AR15 would be good with it being easier to upgrade the iron sights with a smaller aperture for those longer shots.

Why semi auto rifle or why iron sights? I have a few bolt action rifles but no semi auto, I wanna have fun, that's all.
