I don't understand optics at all

OP, You are going to get a serious chevy vs ford battle here, your best bet is to find a store that sells multiple brands and see if you can look through them at Dusk and preferably at brush to simulate hunting conditions. that way you can see which one's will give you the best light transmission and clarity.

I have the sightron s1 3-9 on my savage fv sr 22 and for the price range, you won't find any clearer glass.I have a lot more expensive optic’s, but i truly enjoy the performance of that scope.

I worked at Wiley outdoors sports when I was a kid. A guy came in looking for a rifle and a scope for a hunt. He said I want something dependable so I asked what he was after. He said elk so I picked him up a 338 win mag remington 700 and put a swarovski scope on it and bore sighted it. I said you need to take it to the range and sight it in which I understand he did with no issue. A few months later his buddy came into the shop and asked why I put such a expensive scope on his buddies rifle. I asked did he have any issues with it during the hunt to which he responded "No" and I said "That's why."

Nah back in the 80's a really nice leupold was 150-300 and a swarovski was 600. I had a leupold fail on me and fog up in the field back then so I couldn't recommend one as reliable. I also in the 90s when NightForce first came out had one of those fail me as well. I use nightforce and leupold today. They have both improved a lot.

Yup without good reliable optics you are just going to injure game because of loss of zero or not be able to see them at all when the glass fogs.

Don't cheap out on your scope and mount. I'll never understand why (I've seen this more times than I care to admit) people spend the scratch to buy DD or LWRC ARs and then top it off with an awesome, and I mean picatinny rails EVERYWHERE AWESOME!, NC-Star $40 optical sight on it. I use Leupold, Nightforce and Vortex scopes. I like the Vortex for price/performance value. The Nightforce is very good too. Leupold is the fat girl at the barn dance, she'll do but ain't got a lot of panache.
