I don't understand optics at all

I know of three people that have sent Vortexs back and none for a Leupold.
I know of a whole bunch of people that have sent their scope in to vortex including an AMG I looked at last week, and I know of Several Leopold Mark 8s that went down the same weekend (AMU and sponsored shooter scopes) anything mechanical will brake.

The problem with Vortex's warranty is that TOO many people have had to use it and that's what keeps me from recommending them to anybody.

I know of several Leupolds that have been returned for repair but that's because I became familiar with them in 1991. I only started using Vortex two years ago. I haven't had to return either for warranty work so I'll count myself lucky or just careful with expensive glass.

I have several vortex scopes and several Nikon scopes on various different rifles. Now keep in mind these are all optics 200 or less. The Nikon is a better optic in my opinion. You won't be disappointed with a Nikon. $130 for a Buckmasters 2 at Walmart.

I ended up getting a Nikon Prostaff from my FFL. I like to throw business their way because they never charge FFL fees and they recommended one of the same scopes you guys did. I payed more than I would have online, but that's fine. Thanks guys!

Edited for phone postin' grammar

Go to your locally owned gun store. Not Academy, Bass Pro ect. Most of them will steer you in the direction you need to go. If your near Athens check out Sporting Arms in Winterville.

Vortex has a first class reputation for service after the sale. I love the FFP PST I use on a Rem 700. I think I paid about $850 at my LGS for mine, new. When they were hard to get.

And for God's own sake don't get them to mount the thing (BP, Academy, etc)
Take it to someone that knows what they are doing. Please.

I'll probably just look at everything recommended and pick the best deal. Although I really like the pink one

If price is a concern, you're probably not going to go the Leupold route, even though they are by far the best price-to-performance ratio, with all things considered, IMO. Anyhow, for best budget scopes, you're going to hear a lot of nods for Burris, Vortex, Nikon, and some Weavers. I've had scopes from each and they have all been/are very good for "cheap scopes". Do yourself a favor and skip UTG, sightmark, and the like. Just because you can scope a rifle for $60, doesn't mean you should. Spend at least $125 and get something half-decent.
