Indoor Ranges That Forbid Shooting Steel Cased Ammo

I respect that, Frogman, and wish there was a way to remedy the cost situation for you.

We do limit the rate of fire in the rifle room. In the pistol lanes, we allow for rapid fire as long as you're hitting the target. Often times our safety folks will watch when they hear rapid fire, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're in the wrong. Funny effect is that when there is an accomplished shooter drilling bullseyes rapidly in the pistol bay, we usually have to keep a close eye on lanes around that person, because novices get inspired and decide to mag dump and are not quite as accurate, if you know what I mean.

lol sure do, after all I was one of those novices not so long ago :)

With the fire I experience while at the range the case had nothing to do with it. It was when the bullet hit the steel bullet trap that sparks ignited the powder. I've shot some of the steel cased stuff that sent sparks out of the barrel too.

The fire shut down the range for an hour until the air handling system could clear everything out back to standard.

Again, don't think I'm defending the practice of banning the use of steel cased ammo. I have no dog in the hunt one way or the other.

Sweep and mop the dam floor once or twice a week and that crap won't happen. Seems like common sense to me.

I was at Governors Gun Club Sat. They allow Tulammo & sell it. They magnet test others, which is odd, because Tulammo won't pass. It is lead core but has bi-metal jacket.

Come and Shoot with me!!.....We don't check your ammo, we are rated up to a 300WinMag on both sides. Full auto's are welcome if you got them, SBR's, fast fire, our big rule is no drawing from the holster. That's it.....so bring your ammo down and shoot!!

^^^^^^ and these guys will rent you a full auto firearm if you need one. Enjoyed putting some rounds through their FA polytech ak last year!

I don't mean to beat a dead horse if this issue has been raised before, but I'm just fed up with seeing signs posted at so many indoor ranges that indicate "No Steel Cased Ammo Allowed". It's bad enough that the prices and availability of ammo have gotten so bad, but when I can finally locate and afford to pick up a few boxes of Wolf or some of the other "cheap" stuff, I am told I can't even shoot it at the indoor ranges that are convenient to me. I wish some of the outdoor ranges were a little more convenient, but that's just not the case. I'm calling BS on the ranges who try to say that Wolf ammo (or any of the other mild steel cased stuff) is going to ruin their backstops. I think there is more going on like their laziness in not wanting to separate the casing when trying to re-sell the brass or re-load. For the prices they charge to come in and shoot for a little while, who can afford the higher priced ammo just for punching paper at 25 yards. I'm in Cherokee County and very fortunate to have a number of gun shops/ranges nearby with very competitive pricing but their ammo issues just irk me. Any other opinions out there?

All the quickshot locations allow "steel case" and mag dumps of riffles and pistols. They are awesome. They just opened a buckhead location. Worth the drive.

Ha! I just posted about you guys without reading the second comment. I love that you all don't care about ammo. Also, like your monthly emails about specials. Had no clue you were connected with the company. That's awesome. I send a lot of people your way. Have had many clients shoot on the "company card".

They really allow tulammo? They were pretty strict checking my friend and my ammo. We had brass cased, but they were adamant.
