He was finding cover when the mom came back out. She's lucky he didn't mistake her phone for a gun and take her down too.
That dog seemed to turn aggressive for some reason. If the owner had knowledge that was a possibility, she should have restrained the dog.
Don't risk your kids or dogs around cops.

If the dog bit the officer, it got what it deserved.
Likely because the cop decided to get out of his car and approach the property while the kids were trying to leash the dog.

That could have been handle a lot different the cop did not have the mental ability to handle the call everyone was in DANGER. Those poor kids now they will have a dislike for cops rest of their life can you blame them. My prayers for that family and their dog.
I hope that cop dies a slow, painful death.
The cop was peeping around "assessing the threats" moving towards the truck as cover. He was expecting the owners to come out gunning I reckon.
