Don't forget about all the deductions they can claim for training, travel, expense, equipment, etc. The Gold medal thing is pretty ridiculous though. It's a symbol of being the best, not necessarily a gift or prize. The prize is being declared the best at your sport on an international stage, the gold medal is merely a token of remembrance. What a bunch of greedy SOBs. Now I feel like punching something.
