Is Electricity Crucial To Our Survival? || The EMP

I've said it before and I will say it again. EMP makes for a neat story line in some movie, but that is all it is good for. It's fairytale, science fiction and completely ineffective in reality.

As I said, you all watch too much TV.

"The E3 component of the EMP that caused the failure of the underground power cable was 1300 nT/min (nanotelsas per minute) in the Karaganda region during the first 20 seconds after the detonation. For comparison, the solar storm that shut down the entire power grid of Quebec on March 13, 1989 had a magnitude of 480 nT/min, and caused the Quebec power grid to go from normal operation to complete collapse in 92 seconds. Solar storms on other occasions have been known to produce disturbances of 2000 nT/min, and a solar storm on May 14-15 in 1921 produced a disturbance of 4800 nT/min.

If the United States W49 warhead used for the Starfish Prime test had been used in Test 184, the E3 component would have been more than 5000 nT/min in the Karaganda region."

I know how to dig an outhouse. I have oil lanterns, a bunch of candles and a month's worth of Coleman fuel. I keep a rotating supply of canned goods, and at least 100 pounds of various kinds of rice. All I really need is a well.

The layer of all this that I am most concerned with is the defense of the stores I have and the protection of my family. I am well armed, in my opinion, and decently stocked but make no mistake there will be marauders. It's not if they come but when.
