Is Reloading Costs down ??

I wish there was somewhere in West GA/ East Alabama to shoot that far..
Get with Ga Firing Line, they hold a monthly range day at Rifle Ranch in Graham, Alabama.

As far as reloading to only save money... no. Unless you are shooting some wildcats or rare safari cartridges, it is not worth it from a money savings standpoint now.
Powder is 40-55 bucks a pound now, primers are through the roof too.

If you want to tune your loads to specific uses, then thats a different story. Like I am able to get my 308win 168gr loads 200fps faster out of my 17" MRAD than FGMM. I am also invested in loading a wildcat called 510 Whisper.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for in reloading. I have been reloading since Jan 2000, and went through the price hikes of 2008 election, Sandy Hook in 2012, and 2016 election. I learned from my mistakes of only keeping a few thousand primers, and a few pounds of powder in 2008. After prices returned to the new normal in 2009/2010, I started stocking both really deep. This allowed me to survive the S.H. Price hike in 2012 without buying anything. Then I restocked, and expanded on what I kept on hand. Thankfully I have at least 3 cases of every primer I use, and enough powder to survive another 3 years hopefully.

Looking at prices now, it's still cheaper to load ammo vs buying quality ammo. I don't even compare reloading costs to cheap stuff, because I feel like my reloads are 10 fold better. The price difference has definitely closed some, but it's still worth it IMO. I finally decided to jump on the 300BO wagon, and recently priced components. Needing to buy brass, powder, bullets, and already having primers, I can load 300BO for about 1/2 the price of what factory ammo would cost me. Hopefully prices will back off in a year or two

I’m a shotgunner. I can buy target shells on sale cheaper than I can load em. But for the most premium waterfowl loads I can do it for half the price shopping around for components. Prices have come down a bit on some items lately but the market is changing a lot available as far as components. It’s a hobby for me though so I keep loading.

there are still deals to be had out there you just need to know what you need and what price you are willing to pay for it. I picked up some WC844 and 846 a while ago (post pandemic) for cheap (I don't recall, maybe $150/8# or something like that). I'm sure the guy didn't pay that for it but to me it was worth it to make some basic 223/308 rounds. Over the years I've managed to get bullets for cheap, primers for cheap, brass for cheap. If you need something specific and are on a time line, you won't find the deals. I have enough stock to keep me busy for quite a while with brass prep and now casting bullets, and it's one of my hobbies, so the time isn't an issue.

is it getting cheaper? yes, primers are down around $60/k instead of $100, but not as cheap as my old "buy now" price of $20/k. Powder seems to be creeping downward as well. Those are the two consumables that will cost the most for many people.

I been loading for over 50 years now rifle and pistol caliber. I buy up components when I find reasonable prices. Reloading is a good way to relax and relieve stress for me. I’m still reloading for less than half on most stuff and 3/4 of price on others. Most of my reloads are more accurate than most factory.
