Shipping bullets is pain in ass. I did giveaway with some 22lr awhile back and F that. Had to drive to HUB and only during certain hours, never again. Had to have special box.

They will ask at UPS what it is, and if you tell them ammunition, they won't ship it and will tell you to go to the hub. The simplest thing to do with UPS is pay a little extra to have them pick it up directly from you.

They didn't want to ship a barrel. I went to another one down the street and shipped sporting equipment.

Well, I don't think a barrel is even in their regulations. I know ammo is. For the extra $5 or so having them pick it up is worth it. Sure, you could just tell them it's something else, but I'm not going to lie about it.

you're still lying by omission if you just have them come pick it up....but this isn't really the place to discuss ethics

Yeah, I'm not trying to argue either. However, when they pick it up, it goes to the hub directly. It's the franchisees (UPS Store) that have the problem. Correct me if I'm wrong, but having them pick it up doesn't violate any regulations.

Do you inform the driver that it's ammo?

Why would you? It's marked appropriately and the driver has no problem picking it up. I've been told by the UPS Store that it's the stores that have the issue.

ok...I stand corrected, you're a saint. What did this have to do with the knife again?

Lol, I don't even know at this point other than somehow we were talking about shipping a knife... Anyway, whenever I shipped ammo from home (rare occurrence) I checked around to make sure it was kosher.
