Item Description: Well guys, this had been a frustrating day.

I purchased this 2005 Ford Mustang from an individual off of Facebook. They still owed money on it at Navy Federal, so we met at the bank and I purchased it there. They provided me with a notarized lien release and I filled out a bill of sale with the buyer. The title was supposed to be sent directly to me.

Fast forward a few weeks and the title has not arrived. I have tried getting ahold of the seller, but they have not returned my calls. I followed up with Navy Federal and they are now saying that they never had the title to the vehicle because the loan was opened in Kentucky where apparently they don’t collect the title from the owner.

I have tried to reach the seller, but he has not responded. I have tried calling him and texting him to no avail. My wife and I are now expecting our first child and frankly, I don’t have the bandwidth to deal with this right now.

there are a few options. Go on a rabbit chase to find the original title. Get a bonded title through the state, which after 3 years becomes a normal title. Use it as a track toy.

If I didn’t have a baby on the way, I would definitely keep it as a track toy. This car is easily worth 11 to 12 grand. Blue book trade in on it is about that.

It’s a 2005 GT Premium with only 41k original miles. Clean carfax. Hopefully someone can take advantage of getting it 40% off retail and deal with the headache. I am losing a lot of money at this price. Will maybe consider partial trades.

Well everyone, I've got good news. I was able to reach the previous owner. His brother has been in the hospital after discovering he has brain cancer. I feel like a jerk.... but buying a car on Facebook can certainly be sketchy. He has applied for a duplicate title and will be sending it to me asap. This appears to genuinely be a mixture a misunderstanding and bad timing.
did he send you a photo or copy of the replacement title paperwork?

sounds like a good sob story to put you off for a few more days.
although it could be true.

you can also get a abandonded title.
find a friend with a towing service or a mechanic with a repair shop.
they can get a title after it sits abandonded at their lot for a certain amount of days.

Everything is working out. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt and I really do believe they will get the title over to me in the next couple of weeks. I’ll call their tag office on Monday to confirm they have received the paperwork for the duplicate title.

once the title is here, I’ll be relisting it for $9,000. Time to get an suv for the growing family!!

Let me know when the title is clear.
