The open bolt copies of submachine guns or machine pistols were always super easy to convert to full auto that's why ATF classified them as machine guns back in 1982

I thought about buying one, fondled a few at gun stores & Eastman shows, but then decided "Nah, if I get one like that I'm just gonna go ahead and get the full auto version, transferable pre-1986"

so that's what I did. $400 for an ugly little bullet hose that I had from I think 1992 until maybe 2010( ?).

There’s around 10 makes of open-bolt semi’s that the ATF gifted to us by not forcing NFA registration after the fact

In the 90’s I incorrectly predicted their prices would have shot to the moon similar to their NFA counterparts prices.
True, but the ATF picked off some of the rare ones by claiming they were too easily converted to FA and reclassified them to MGs. Wasn't the Holmes MP83 one of them?

People who owned those open bolt ones back in 1982 when the feds were reclassifying them "should have" gone ahead and registered them as full autos on a form 1 prior to May of 1986.

The SWD open bolt version of the Mac 10 looks like it could've been made full auto (no longer select fire but simply full auto only) with a hand file and 20 minutes worth of labor, or 30 seconds of touching the thing to a grindstone or belt sander.

I remember those open bolt SWD MAC 10s could be made to fire FA by placing a stop behind the trigger to limit the trigger travel. Talk about instant NFA violation.

If you used a little chunk of wood, if green jeans or alphabet boys showed up, just drop the wood, it blends into the ground and bam... semi auto again.

Yep. Someone told me a hard pencil eraser works great for that. It was fun! I mean… they said it was fun.
