Salt wood affected many of these from 1966 until 1972 and some later.
To tell, you need to remove a screw or two or remove the barreled action from the stock. If real bad, you can tell by dark spotting on the stock where it touches steel.
I've got a salt Superposed .410 at Art's getting repaired right now. Turn around about 1 year and $2500 later, it should be a nice gun when done.

I believe the "salt wood" has to do with shotguns...I haven't heard of "salt wood" in any other Browning product....could be wrong
Unfortunately, they dried the rifle stocks this way also. Plenty of info on the web, or visit Art's Gun Repair. He worked for Browning back in the day and repaired these.

The only definitive way to rule out salt wood is with a test using Silver Nitrate.

Search "Browning Salt Wood"... there are hundreds discussions concerning this issue.
