mouser..I was ready to see a picture of an old cat. Jk, the rifle is what those above have said, a Japanese Arisaka.

You've got a Jap type 38 Arisaka. You've got one of the long ones which isn't worth as much as the carbines generally but yours does have the mum on the receiver intact which is good. I was able to pick one a few weeks back and they shoot good. Its probably in 7.7 or 6.5 jap

It's a late war production type 99 arisaka 7.7 jap. You can tell by the lack of the ladder sight. The intact chrysanthemum is a good find. These rifles are works of art/history. Being that the symbol is intact means that there's a good chance that a marine, soldier or sailor brought it back during or after the war. GLWS
