Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Just depends on the production and the scene it is being used in. If the weapon is going to be in the foreground, likelier chance it’ll be real. If far away, probably not. Sometimes airsoft, sometimes even plastic.

Yessir. I think that’s one of the reasons they aren’t used as much anymore. No need for a real gun to fire blanks when it’s safer and less expensive to just add it in post.
