Its 2am and something goes bump

I would agree that the click click of a pump shotgun would make most people soil their pants. But....................

First point is that sound lets them know where you are.
Second point is the few moments it takes to make that cool sound may be enough for the perp to draw down on you.

For me the sound i want a prep to hear is the deafening noise of a 2 1/2 inch shell exploding into action

Oh, I know-

I probably wouldn't really do any showboat stuff like this unless I were completely certain I had the drop on the guy, but if I did-if would be one heck of a sendoff!

-But still-the 870 would be my weapon of choice. You don't have to worry about stray shots going all around the neighborhood, and I ain't no trauma dr., but from what I understand-dozens of holes is a lot worse for johnny crackhead than just one or two.

-In all seriousness-I hope I never have to defend myself and family in that manner, but if I ever do-I will not play games or take half measures. A good shotgun for home defense is definitely not a half measure in my book.

Devastating..is all that can be described from a 12Ga.shotgun blast of 00Buck....8 bullets the size of .38s hitting at once.
From living to..BOOM...dead. in an split instant!!

Agreed. The send off would be appropriate.
Being an old boy scout i like to plan for the worst and hope for the best.
My ccw licence, cpr training and survival training are all things that i hope never to have to press into service. But i still train and plan.

My 870-

1-Because that beautiful sound of chambering a 3" mag means the same thing-no matter what native language the perp may speak.

2-Because some crackhead who just took a torso full of above ammo is unlikely to ever cause anyone anymore problems.

Never understood this. You're in a stressful situation and that one step of chambering a round has the chance to become very complicated. Simply put if someone is in my house the first and last thing they'll ever hear is my gun being fired.

1st go to?...cell phone.
You have stated in your post that you KNOW someone is in your home with you.
1st action needs to be contacting reinforcements and get help enroute.

I could list follow up actions in order..but 911 even if you dont speak needs to be 1st action taken.

If your dialing 911 and the intruder comes in the room with you are you going to throw the phone at him or flip him the finger? First action should be to grab whatever weapon you choose to arm yourself with and then call 911. If your significant other is present have them call 911 so that you can cover your sector of fire. Barricade yourself in place unless you have family somewhere else inside the house. Clearing a structure is not as easy in real life as its portrayed on TV.

I've had a shotgun pulled on me in the middle of the night before. It was all a misunderstanding, I assure you. Misunderstanding or no, however, it is a sound I'll never forget and never want to hear again...
