It depends, if the perpetrator is already inside my house all hell breaks loose and I'm going for blood. (Kalashnikov in arms reach)
If he/she/it is outside my house I'd definitely identify first. It could be a inebriated neighbor for all I know. My dogs usually sound the alarm so this is the most probable scenario (I'm already up before anyone's in).
