Its 2am and something goes bump

It depends, if the perpetrator is already inside my house all hell breaks loose and I'm going for blood. (Kalashnikov in arms reach)

If he/she/it is outside my house I'd definitely identify first. It could be a inebriated neighbor for all I know. My dogs usually sound the alarm so this is the most probable scenario (I'm already up before anyone's in).

My sleeping beauties :D

Anyone else using illumination? What do you use?

A weapon-mounted light is nice in addition to a hand-held.

A handheld tact. light offers greater flexibility by not having to point your weapon at everything that you point your flashlight at.
Like w/ all defensive firearms , training is very critical.
You don't want to go through the "learning curve" for the first time when it's a life or death situation.

The light switch. Flip it up, works wonders.
LOL @ all the lasers, lights, acogs, etc... for bustin a cap in someone's ass less than 10 yards from you.

On some occasions, that actually can be a good idea.

On others, it will make you a very easy to shoot target.

With live ammo & real live threats there is no "re-set" button.

Most of the time the switch is inside of the room that you plan to enter, not a good idea to be fumbling around feeling for a switch with a possible suspect in the room. A weapon with a light mounted does not have to be pointed at a particular object in order to illuminate it. If your finger is straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire this shouldn't make much of a diffrence anyway.

For me, it is simple. Double Barrel Coach Gun on my side of the bed, with my XD Tactical 45 backing her up. On the wife's side is a .40 cal. Taurus and the phone.

Luke

P.S. its a narrow straight hallway to my bed room with the light at their back. Planning and Training is everything.

Rem 870 with OO buck, more on the stock, G19 with the wife. Surfire for illumination.
Doesn,t make any difference, they would never get past my three attack Chihuahuas.
The perp wouldn't be hard to find, he would be the one at the emergency room with the chewed up ankles...

My m4 under my bed w/surefire light, laser, and Plenty of ammo in that mag to neutralize any threats. Better half has a judge loaded with .410 on her side of the bed. Hopefully will never have to use either. I have a 80lb pitbull named Rocco who tends to scare people away from the house, but he's just a big baby. Wouldn't hurt a fly
