I've changed my mind about the Second Amendment

That applies to you too, big boy.

You and I both agree that violent/sexual felons shouldn't be released back into society if they aren't rehabilitated, but you and I both know that it still happens. You're trying to make your argument based upon an ideal as opposed to reality.

Nothing you and I say or do is going to stop violent/sexual felons from being released when they shouldn't be. Anything you say about "rehabbed" felons will also apply to the vast majority that are not rehabbed and WILL attempt to commit another violent/sexual felon.

Oh I am SO sorry I didn't capture Your meaning and had my own interpretation of what you wrote. how could I do such a thing. Please forgive me.....

BTW I Still disagree with it....

That is exactly the point of my post... If they have not been rehabbed, then why are we ok with releasing them. If you read the sentence after the one that was bolded, I conclude that point. It's important to READ the whole post before jumping the gun, it's all about context.

My issue is not the ex-felons having guns... It is the fact that dangerous ex-felons are being released out of prison to commit additional violent crimes. That is my issue, and quite frankly it's everyone else's issue as well, whether they choose to accept it or not.

But by restricting all felons, you are trying to create your ideal of safety as well. When we are talking of imposing law to protect citizens, why not impose tougher punishments on the real bad guys? We have become a society where the criminal "net" is cast wide, but it is shallow. We are incarcerating in quantity, not quality. I say punish the few true criminals very harshly. If an insurance fraud and a murderer serve a relatively short sentence and are released, who are we more worried about repeating crime? They may both violate the law again, but im more worried about the murderer.

could go back to the punishments of the old days. then they could keep their rights. course they'd be hung or beheaded. if they went to prison, it was real punishment.

We both agree on literally every single word you just said, but that's not the topic of the thread. People convicted of violent/sexual felonies have trampled on the rights of innocent people to the most extreme degree and I'm in favor of restricting their rights moving forward in any and all ways possible, including taking away their second amendment rights. I would also support the forfeiture of their fourth amendment rights as well. If they don't all receive the death penalty (which they won't), and they have to be released back into society (and some of them will be), then the next best thing to me is to restrict any and all rights possible.

You never "pay your debt" for certain crimes and I don't care whether or not a government entity says you have. On the same note, you can never be rehabilitated after certain crimes. If your conscience allows you to actually rape an innocent woman or kill an innocent man, there's no coming back to "normal." I don't care if a government entity says you are rehabilitated. You're not. Period.
