ive gotta put my dog down

This is gonna be awful, but i gotta do it. Going to take him to the vet saturday. Hes had a long life (16 or 17 years) but he is pretty much blind and deaf. Also is basically skin amd bones since he dont eat much, plus his back legs give out.

I dont like the idea of putting him out to pasture but its gotten to where we cant effictively take care of him (he cant help but pee inside now it seems).

Ive never done this before. Whats the run down on the procedure, anything i should expect or anticipate?

We had the vet come to our house so he could be at home with us and we could all say goodbye to an ole faith friend. Say a prayer that God gives you peace with it! It comes to a point where an animal is suffering and we have to make a hard choice. It's one of the hardest things I have ever done. My thoughts are with you brother! God bless!

Our oldest (8) passed Sunday morning at the Emergency Vet while pulling blood for tests to determine if she was in liver failure.... She knew that we would have not been able to make a decision so she made it herself and went on her terms....

Tears, tears and more tears is pretty much how that day goes, will be thinking about yall.

Sorry for your loss! It's a very tough decision and just sad.

Sorry to hear, Chuckles--It's NEVER an easy decision, but it sounds like it's the RIGHT ONE for your Furry Friend...

Like JWC, my Allergies have started acting up reading this, but I know two things--First, our Furry Family Members never seem to live long enough...Second thing is, NOT allowing them to live in pain is the last kindness--And the most sacred duty--That we have to/for them--Not really a bad trade-off when compared to their lifetime of unconditional love, devotion & loyalty to us...

I hope & pray it's not too hard for ya'...

Hate to hear it. The dread of it all. Love em up best you can.

Be at ease knowing you don't take this action lightly, but he is telling you it is time - they ALWAYS tell you when it is time - in the way they look at you.

Peace.

Sorry to hear it! this is very difficult no matter how you slice it!

I personally didn't go back with my dog to be put down. I said goodbye and let them take her back.

You may want to bring a box or blanket that you would want to bury him in.

I found digging the grave to be very therapeutic. You feel so helpless in this situation but digging a good deep grave was something that I could do and it really helped me to have something meaningful and exhausting to do while I said my final goodbyes.

Good luck and prayers sent

Yeah I had to do 2 in one year a few years ago. It's sux, but when they get that old, it's for the best so just know it's the right decision.
