McNeil accepted a plea of manslaughter for time served instead of waiting for a new trial. Prior counsel didn't push to have jurors told about stand-your-ground. The AJC article (http://www.ajc.com/news/news/local/john-mcneil-to-leave-jail-tuesday/nWMZ3/) quotes a juror's comments about carrying a gun with hollow-point bullets.
"But jurors who spoke to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last year said that is not how they saw it and they cited the recording of the conversation between McNeil and the 911 operator in which he treatened to harm Epp if police did not get there in time to stop him. âThe guy just went off, âone juror said last year. âYou know anybody who carries around a gun with hollow-point bullets? ⦠I think rage just ate him up.â
I don't know all the facts of the case, but it's a bit disconcerting to say the least if simply carrying JHP's was an aggravating factor that pushed the jury to convict for murder.
