Just a little while ago....

I looked out there this afternoon and saw three deer that seemed spook. Two large dogs were pushing them. The first was a hound mix of some sort. It VERY tentatively approached the RIP yote and immediately headed back from where it came and forgot about the deer. The other dog eventually found the yote too and approached a bit less cautiously but also forgot about the deer and headed back from where it came immediately afterwards. I'm guessing they got a bad vibe.
Checked cam to see if more yotes... none last night but a stud buck I've never seen before in the middle of the day with what appears to be a swelling neck. :)

Good shot. :thumb:

And I would be curious to know how long the yote sits there without anything touching it. I have said many times even the buzzards won't touch the nasty dead yotes, and that has been my experience in the woods, but I'd be curious to see how long one sits more in the open like this one.

Last one I shot and threw back there the buzzards eventually came around after about 3 days but it was mid summer. I can tell you this, 75 yards or so upwind is NOT far enough during the summer to let a coyote carcass decompose. That was honestly the only one I've shot that I can definitely say they hit.
I have let others lay wide open in pastures and the buzzards NEVER touched them.
We'll see. The next days' heat ought to get it's scent out good enough.

Everyone I have ever left out was taken by the maggots and mother nature. The buzzards would not touch them.

Congrats on the kill. I have taken a few, but I always find it a little hard cause well damn they look just like one of my dogs. He has the same coloring and size and build of the yotes around here. image.jpg
