Kids drank snake water. Salmonella?

Well the kids asked me to hook up the hose mister, so I grabbed a hose from under the deck, & hooked up the mister. They played in it for a while, drank it a bit, dumped cups of it on themselves. Took a break and turned it off, came back to turn it on again, and… nothing.

Took off the nozzle and found this feller inside.

No, I didn’t chop him up, that’s how he came out (I’m thinking he drowned, then maybe tore while I was unscrewing the cap). I’m guessing he’d made his home inside the hose, & I hooked it up before he was able to make his way out.

So, how common is salmonella among the hose-dwelling garter snake crowd? Any preventative measures?

They’ve probably had worse. We used to swim in a creek where cow turds would occasionally float by. We somehow made it. Chances are they will be fine, just monitor for symptoms. I think turtles are more prone towards carrying pathogens Than snakes.

Just keep an eye on them for a few days. I am sure that is a bit frightening for a parent, but they probably will be fine. Good luck.

lol. Yes, I said, “Oh, here’s why there’s no water coming out.” At first they are intrigued. Then I said, “You girls drank snake water.” Their faces dropped, and the “eeeewwwwws” and gagging followed.

Never had snake water but I did try something from the liquor store a while back called Ranch Water. Holy **** it was gross! All things considered I would drink the snake water before doing that again.

Probably fine but keep an eye on their temp. If they get a fever go to the ER.
