Kitchen knife set that isn’t junk?

Good morning ODT knife snobs

looking for a recommendation on a kitchen knife block set that is good quality, sharp knives that hold edges but don’t break the bank.

these are for a gift, trying to stay <$250 budget

I’ve received cuisinart and calphalon etc knife blocks that are in the sub $100 range as gifts and it doesn’t take long before they’re squishing tomatoes rather than slicing them

I've got a set of Ontario old hickory knives that I like to use. They are rough around the edges, but for something USA made under $100 I've been impressed

Get you a few Mora knives and put in your block

The block could be better, but the knives are nice. I ordered these recently, my mom has a set from the 80's she used when the was a chef.
