Those things scare me....looks like it removes a lot of material at once...,

Just a scaled down version of a BurKing like pro knife makers use. I buy my belts from McMaster Carr and have a wide assortment of grits all the way up to 6k.
I can put a perfect edge on any knife. Cheap steel or quality. I use 1500 grit on a knife with a good edge to maintain a "shaving" level of sharp. Love mine.

I too am a Spyderco sharpmaker fan... Have had one for 26yrs that is still going strong!

Went to my local Sportsmans Wharehouse and picked up a Spydeco sharpener. Gonna go home and watch the DVD.
