This morning I hit a deer with my car. The deer was hurt bad and was just suffering with a torn open abdomen, broken neck and leg. I decided that the best thing to do for the poor animal was to put it down with a pistol I traded for yesterday.

Question: Is this legal in Georgia? The thought crossed my mind at the time but I felt it was inhumane to leave the deer there suffering. I left my knife at home this morning so cutting its throat was not an option.

Here are the photos of my car and the deer for those of you who are curious.

The windshield and wipers cost me about $250.
The grille will cost me about $35.00 plus paint.
The Hood will cost me about $150 plus paint.
The .40 Caliber round cost me about $.50. (Hypothetically)

I believe proper procedure is to call local law enforcement and let them handle it. I know that it is illegal to just dispatch the deer and take it unless given permission to do so.

The problem with calling local law enforcement is that they will write up an accident report. I'm not filing insurance on it anyway so what good is an accident report. I'm paying to fix it out of my own pocket.

Same thing happened to me though I just witnessed the same type of collision, deer up in the air about 30 feet, both legs broken, scampered into the woods, I followed, got the trusty knife and put it out of its misery, called cops, (checked on the driver), cops came, I asked if I could have the animal and they consented, field dressed it, put it in the truck then pulled out to the red light(in front of six flags at discovery blvd)..lol.

I was standing in front of my safe this morning deciding on which pistol to carry with me. Something told me to carry the SOG Seal Pup knife I bought for hog hunting. I second guessed myself on taking the knife along. I thought to myself, "What would I EVER need that knife for?" and I put it back in the safe.
