Single shot shovel…..It's a regular shovel.
for (most) personal defense situations I'd be likely to find myself in, a semi-auto fed center fire rifle is a better fit. The rattler in my picture has 30 rounds compared to the 4 in the shotgun, is quicker to reload, easier to suppress, and has good power both in close and at longer ranges. Plus here in the suburbs shot spread is a detriment in most cases.Surprised to see so many pumps in this thread.
I'm not making an argument for shotty vs other for home defense. A semi auto shotgun of adequate capacity is ~40" long compared to the 19 or so of the folded rattler, and an SBR is actually a smaller platform than a pistol with arms extended, so it's easier for me to use and move around the house. Shotguns are harder to load and work for my wife, as well.
I love shotguns, cut my teeth on them hunting and shooting skeet/trap and as a former semi-pro 3 gun shooter I can run the hell out of one. It's more work, more training, and not really great for my use case, which is why the 870 is more for fun than anything.
That said, if I lived in a ban state or somewhere bears/boars were even a remote possibility over idiots on 2 legs, I would absolutely be fine with a nice semi with a dot, side saddle, and light.

I'm simply surprised that the go-to for many is a pump. Which, by nature, requires two hands to operate. Not a great idea in a defensive state given that you could have an arm injured, need to be shuttling people around, moving obstacles etc. Your weapon requiring 2 hands to operate seems counterproductive, at best.
But you can run a semi with one hand. You can't run a pump with any level of efficiencytrue, but I think it was expressed above that a GOOD semi shotgun, well set up, is expensive. A pump is not. Plus I wouldn't want to run a semi one handed either, another win for short rifle.
don't get me wrong, I will be setting up a sweet semi here hopefully this year, but that's more for if I wanted or needed to send an awful lot of hate quickly in one direction.
I think people forget that each round of ~00 buck shot has almost the same energy as a fully loaded LCP/32 pocket pistol. Like it's whole magazine worth. that's a good bit of damage you can do in a hurry. Plus slugs weigh an ounce each.
I put a sling on mine so I can let go of it and use my hands. 🤷♂️I'm not making an argument for shotty vs other for home defense. This was a simply defense scattergun pic thread.

You missed the point. Big time.I put a sling on mine so I can let go of it and use my hands. 🤷♂️
I don't think I did at all. I think I addressed the part I cared about, which is being able to be hands free by using a sling. I'm not trying to advocate this or that for all the scenarios we could come up with, which I know is what you're getting it. Will leave that for others to discuss. You missed the point. Big time.
