Chevy Silverado, vortex engine, made from real tornadoes!

Why was the camera dude going toward the tornado in his vehicle? Why did the Chevy driver go into a tornado? The surrounding area seems pretty open so how did either one not see the tornado coming? Inquiring minds want to know.
