Lockheed Martin C-130, Celebrating 60 Years of Hercules Flight

Wonder who helped build the first one.....;)

I've dug into the nitty gritty details of that plane's structure more than once... there's a lot to be said for fail safe engineering. As it was designed and rolled off the line, you could reduce the cargo a little and do really fast touch and go landings with very little effect on the aircraft structure.

Let's just say I'd feel much safer on a C-130 that was 50 years old than a new Boeing 777 that just rolled off the line. Sure that's not apples to apples, but this engineer has seen the guts of both.
 
GREAT Aircraft! My Father-in-law, Mother-in-law and Wife all worked on the C-130 at some point during their time at Lockheed...FIL was one of about eight or ten who suggested the name "Hercules" in a Company Contest--IIRC, he got a Zippo Lighter for that, LOL!
