Heck, Lockheed's "Skunkworks" out in Kali did the same thing with the SR-71 which is what, Mach 3 capable? Mach 5? Does anybody even REALLY know?... :) ....mikey357

My father, George F (SENATOR) Russell was one of three people who put in the name "Hercules" for the C-130. Lockheed gave him an engraved Zippo lighter that I still have. I am also proud to say, I built different sections of the C-130 for several years after the C-5 contract ended. I think it will still be flying when I'm long gone!

There was a Herc at hartsfield today. Parked at the north cargo. I didnt get close enough to make out the livery. Very cool bird.

Was it a C-130 or an L-100?

The C-130 propulsion has always been turboprop.

C-130 is the military variant, the latest version is the "J" model. The leading letter code designates special mission [C=cargo, KC=tanker, WC=weather reconnaissance, HC=search&rescue, etc.]

L-100 is the commercial version, the latest commercial venture has just begun designated LM-100J
