Look-out for thiefs around mall of Ga in Buford

I know the GPD guys working that area. Really sucks, but if I were a crook.....that's where I would be hitting.

Word to the wise regarding GPS. They are a Huge target, do DO NOT PROGRAM YOU HOME AND LABEL IT. These are stolen by the thousands and a savvy crook could come looking for Round 2. Have to be smart guys.

Good point! I don't know that most people would ever think of not listing home on their GPS.

Doesn't the Hampton have a camera there right outside the door? What did the tape show? I had a gun stolen out of my car once and reported it. They found it but in California but are still holding it for evidence. We'll see if I get it back.

Goes to prove what I've always said, if you were going to give Gwinnett an enema you would stick the tube right in Buford.

That's true but sad! Buford used to be an awesome place to live, I have watched it go down the tubes for the past ~20 years.

glad someone else mentioned that! My GPS has the QT by my house listed as home. A bad guy will see you get out of your car (ie: black friday) steal your GPS knowing that you will be shopping most the day and then hit "HOME" and could potentially loot your house while you are away. In the OP's case if his GPS lists home, he could potentially rob you and your home with your own gun... or worse! I would be exceptionally paranoid!!!!!!

I read this somewhere... dont know if its true or not but I could definitely see it happening. The short version

A man awoke one morning to find that his battery had been stolen out of his truck in his driveway sometime during the night. He purchased a new battery and went about his way. Two days later, he came home from work to a note on his door with an envelope next to his battery. The note saide "Sorry about taking your battery, my car died and I had to get somewhere immediately." In the envelope was $100.00 and tickets to a football game that weekend. Obviously, the owner thought... wow not all people are bad.

Upon returning from the football game, he came into his home which had been cleaned out of all valuables. Then it hit him.

The guy that took his battery... new where he lived... new there was only one vehicle so most likely one maybe two people living there, had two days to watch the house and see how many folks came or went and establish resident schedule, and new how long he would be gone at the football game. He had the perfect oppotunity to break in with minimal risk of anyone being home and could take his time

Again... no idea if its true... but scary none the less. I guess the moral of the story is if it is too good to be true... it probably is!

that or rig up a 12 gauge on a chair by the front door. <--- j/k.. bad idea

Word from one of the policemen is that sometimes the thugs see hunting decals, firearm logo's etc. and hit those vehicles.

One of the reasons I never put any decals on my vehicles- never know what unwanted attention they may bring, especially from liberal morons. Good luck with getting your weapon returned and hope that you stay safe!

That's the reason I don't use the suction cup on the windshield. The tell-tale ring is a dead give away that there might be a GPS in the vehicle. I also lock up anything that I'm leaving in the car before I get to where I'm going, I keep a spare key for the dash in my pocket so I can lock it before stopping.

My jeep is usually doorless and I really think in plain sight security is the best preventative measure. For example I have a solid steal lockbox bolted to the floor of my jeep. It is secured with a heavy grade steel latch, carriage bolts and combolock. The locking side stay facing my tailgate, which can only be unlocked with a key, and it is difficult to get to the combolock with the tailgate closed. I keep my GPS in there along with my more expensive offroad and recovery gear.

Would it be possible to break into... absolutely. However, I imagine most parking lot bandits do not carry boltcutters, crowbars, or angle grinders. An if they did, they would have to make a helluva lot of noise to get into it. The other advantage of having a jeep is most folks no there is nothing valuable in them. Why break into a fully open jeep instead of the unlocked accord parked next to it with the tell tell GPS ring on the windshield!

Agreed. I will wipe the ring off. Bottom line........ALWAYS be aware and think as much like a criminal as you can. I trust no one.

Read that story about a guy that was given a set of Falcons tickets for a certain game from someone he barely knew. They went to the game to come home to a totally empty house of their valuable. Crook knew when they would be gone.

Dude you're telling me! I live 5 mins from the mall, LOTS of crime there. I had my tools stolen out of my car a couple years ago, they were dumb enough not to take the brand new 350 dollar drill set sitting right next to it, WITH the receipt in the box.
